This afternoon the BouwBeurs Ladies Lunch was held for the first time. Tables were beautifully set in the BouwBeurs Café for a delicious lunch. There more than 50 professional women gathered to network and share each other's experiences. The goal of the lunch? To show the industry how important women in construction are and to inspire other women to choose the construction trade. "You hear very little from women themselves in construction. It's about a piece of visibility. The Ladies Lunch creates a place for women."
Attendees of the Ladies Lunch already noticed: a high percentage of men on the show floor. Extra nice to see this large group of female faces together. So according to Inge van Doorne of Awood, the main question is how to get more women into construction. Her solution? "Let them pay women once more than men, because we don't come through but we can do just as much. Maybe sometimes we lack some physical strength but we have a lot to offer in other areas. Then we complement each other just right. That has to be seen," said Inge. Thelma Middelkoop of OpenSpace agrees. "It is still a man's world while we have a lot to add. We complement each other very well but then that has to be seen."
With the Ladies Lunch, BouwBeurs 2023 wants to change that. "This is a nice boost to take the first steps in this. And very nice that women are coming more into the picture. The BouwBeurs is an ideal setting to draw more attention to women in construction. Good that the initiative has been taken and is therefore very much appreciated."
BouwBeurs looks back on a successful first Ladies Lunch. Participants were able to meet with each other, seek recognition and talk about what is going on in construction. A number of construction women indicated they are looking forward to the next edition, where they would love to join again!
