"We believe the Honda AWV can be a valuable solution to support construction teams while improving workplace efficiency and safety. By leveraging Honda's decades of experience developing reliable, safe and clean mobility technology, we aim to address issues such as labor shortages and improved environmental performance," said Jason VanBuren, Systems engineer manager at American Honda Motor.[/column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/4″][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2″][youtube_video code="W0z9yMNFa5M"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/4″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][column_text]The fully programmable all-electric Honda AWV leverages the company's emerging advanced autonomous technology to create a rugged off-road work vehicle designed to support construction-related activities and increase workforce productivity. With the ability to operate autonomously - or manually via remote control - the Honda AWV could provide a wide range of services to industries that require autonomous operation or delivery solutions, especially when personnel constraints make other solutions impractical. The company is also exploring the development of attachments and tools that could make the vehicle a suitable platform for many work environments.
Extensively tested
Honda successfully field-tested the second-generation Honda AWV at a large-scale solar construction site in the southwestern US. Based on field tests, the company is now introducing the third-generation Honda AWV, which includes a number of improvements.
The main features are:
- Increased bed size up to 2 pallets and increased load capacity of approximately 1,000 pounds
- Improved navigation in locations where global navigation satellite system (GNSS) service is weak or unavailable through the use of LiDAR sensors
- Simplified tablet-based programming interface and cloud connectivity
- Higher speed in autonomous mode - up to 15 mph
- Larger battery capacity and longer usage time of up to 10 hours
- Improved avoidance function for vehicles stopped on the road
- Lowered bed for easier loading and improved ergonomics
The Honda AWV uses an array of sensors to operate autonomously, using GPS for location, radar and lidar for obstacle detection and cameras for remote monitoring. Previous field tests have also successfully demonstrated that multiple Honda AWVs can transport and deliver construction materials and supplies to precise points along a preset route. The vehicle leverages Honda's extensive portfolio of mobility technologies and uses common components from its cars and other products.[/column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/4″][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2″][button button="|title:Website|target:%20_blank|"][button="|title:LinkedIn|target:%20_blank|"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/4″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][google_ad][/vc_column][/vc_row]
