Fontys Hogeschool, educational group for HBO in the southern Netherlands, chooses Unica for the maintenance of the electrical and mechanical installations. The contract covers all 21 buildings of Fontys, where education is given to over 46,000 students and 5,000 employees are employed. From February 1, 2024, Unica will carry out the maintenance of all technical installations for at least 6 years. Unica also supports Fontys in the desired process of making its buildings and installations more sustainable.
Both parties will enter into a cooperation for an initial period of 6 years with an option to extend 2 x 2 years. Specifically, Unica will support the Fontys University of Applied Sciences in the field of electrical and mechanical installations in its 21 buildings with a total area of 200,000m². This includes, for example, the climate systems, drinking water and legionella control systems and plumbing and electrical systems (including charging stations, PV panels and emergency lighting). Unica also advises on how Fontys can make its buildings more sustainable and thus fulfill its ambition to achieve CO2-neutral operations by 2030 and be 75% gas-free.
Lots of experience
Unica has extensive experience in the management and maintenance and sustainability of technical installations at educational institutions. For example, the technical service provider has been managing and maintaining all technical installations at the High Tech Campus since 2022 and is also the management and maintenance partner of the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Unica's strong branch network, including 4 local branches in North Brabant and Limburg, together with its extensive experience in management and maintenance for schools, was important for Fontys University of Applied Sciences to award the contract to Unica.
The contract is under the direction of Unica Building Services Eindhoven, working with its offices in Oosterhout and Venlo. Unica Building Services inspects, tests and maintains climate installations, heat generation, soil energy systems and control and site installations. The company is also increasingly supporting clients in the area of sustainability projects. Unica Building Services has 18 offices throughout the Netherlands and over 1,000 employees.
Energy efficient solutions
Jeroen Groenen, branch director of Unica Building Services Eindhoven, explains, "It is with great pleasure that we are going to support all Fontys Hogeschool branches in their ambition to offer its students and employees the most attractive study and working environment possible. Naturally, we will focus on sustainable and energy-efficient solutions. Moreover, we involve the students, our next generation, to think along in improving the educational environment. From Unica, we enjoy working for educational institutions and therefore know well the wishes that apply to this type of buildings. We not only want to offer the best possible management and maintenance but also realize an optimal total cost of ownership."
