Nominated in the Smart & Efficient category

The shortage of skilled workers and the enormous task of new construction and renovation make smart and efficient construction perhaps more important than ever. This is why the BouwBeurs Awards in the 'Smart & Efficient' category aims to reward entries that contribute to a smooth construction process and efficiency in the built environment. Digitalisation and industrialisation often go hand in hand in this regard.

The choice for this category is also wide: from a concealed cistern with a host of installation technical cleverness, to a cavity chair that prevents thick insulation blankets from sagging and landing on the foundation... The jury is delighted with all the steps being taken to make processes more efficient while at the same time often adding value to the end result.

Smart & Efficient

To select three nominees from the range, the jury looked at both innovativeness and the efficiency gains made. The three nominees are Prefab Isolatie Nederland's "Insulate in one day" service, Masterwatt's thermal battery Charge and Ubbink's prefabricated energy roof HoriSun.

Each product or service is an example for how the construction process or built environment can be designed more efficiently.

'Insulating in one day' from Prefab Insulation Netherlands

Prefab Insulation Netherlands offers an efficient method for interior insulation with minimal inconvenience to residents with 'Insulation in one day'. The process starts with a 3D scan of the house, followed by digital elaboration and production. The insulation is then installed in one day. Materials and finishes, such as biobased insulation, are customizable to specific needs. This approach significantly reduces assembly time, residual waste and work traffic, while allowing residents to remain in their homes. A great solution for inhabited renovations, mutation houses and complexes.

Masterwatt's Charge

Masterwatt's Charge is a smart control unit that acts as a thermal battery for domestic hot water, paired with a Wally or Saga water heater. The system optimizes hot water storage based on dynamic energy rates and surplus solar energy. With self-learning capability, the Charge analyzes usage patterns to efficiently heat. In Blue Battery mode, solar energy is utilized to preheat water, which can reduce gas consumption by up to 40 percent. Three integrated sensors guarantee sufficient hot water at all times. The accompanying app provides insight into settings and performance.

HoriSun from Ubbink

HoriSun from Ubbink is a patented prefabricated roof concept that combines construction and installation technology. The hinged roof, equipped with integrated solar panels and a waterproof, ventilated ridge, is installed as a single unit, making installation quick and scaffold-free. Solar panels on both sides of the roof optimize energy yield and enable connection to energy storage systems. The prefabricated approach ensures accurate connections, prevents broken roof tiles when installing PV panels, and increases construction safety through reduced roof work. The HoriSun should be suitable for both new construction and renovation. Production is scheduled for the second half of 2025.
