Dutch Green Building Council has a new managing director. From January 1, 2025, Brigit Gerritse will succeed interim director Daphne Braal. Gerritse experiences that the sector is on the move, but also sees opportunities to accelerate sustainability. "There is now a realization that an unsustainable built environment without social added value has no future value, and therefore no economic value."
Brigit Gerritse graduated as a planner from the University of Amsterdam and has more than 30 years of experience in the real estate industry. She is currently head of research & strategy at Redevco. She previously served as executive director at the international knowledge platform Urban Land Institute and was director of Kern, a Dutch knowledge and networking center with a focus on city centers and neighborhoods. During that time, she was also appointed program manager for the Retailagenda, an initiative of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy. Gerritse was also involved with DGBC in the past with her participation in the Koplopergroep Deltaplan Duurzame Renovatie.
Lots of expertise
Chairman of the DGBC Board Rutger Schuur: "We are proud to confirm the appointment of Brigit Gerritse as DGBC's new Managing Director. She has gained broad experience in the real estate sector and thus a lot of expertise and a large network in the built environment. She has long been passionate about making the built environment more sustainable. The board is confident that she can further shape the sustainable course together with our supporters."
Moment to accelerate
The new director is looking forward to starting Jan. 1, 2025. For Gerritse, now is really the time to accelerate sustainability. "In recent years, the task of making the built environment more sustainable has played an increasingly important role in my work. A lot is happening and we are on the right track, but it really needs to be done faster. In my new role at DGBC, I get every opportunity to contribute to this. It feels like my whole career has been a stepping stone to this wonderful and urgent challenge. I am enormously looking forward to working here with the DGBC team and the ironclad network."
