Fischer injection mortar now also applicable in wood

An innovative solution from the German fastener brand fischer now makes it possible to transfer high loads alongside a wide range of applications in load-bearing wood structures. Fischer's FIS EM Plus injection mortar can be used to bond FIS A anchor rods or to bond FIS G internal threaded anchors flush with surfaces.

The fastener specialist fischer has expanded the application range of its FIS EM Plus injection mortar to include bonding in wood. In addition to durable and secure fixings in concrete and subsequently installed reinforcement connections, the epoxy resin mortar now also transfers high loads in load-bearing timber structures. Combined with FIS A anchor rods or the new FIS IG internal threaded anchor, load-bearing wood components made of spruce, pine or fir can be bonded with FIS EM Plus.

Internal thread

An extensive range of accessories and system components made of galvanized steel and stainless steel allows many different bonded connections in wood, both indoors and outdoors with the FIS EM Plus. FIS A anchor rods from M6 to M30 with variable anchor depths and FIS IG internal threaded anchors with internal threads from M8 to M20 can be used. Ribbed bars with diameters from 6 to 32 mm are also approved. By offering this innovative internally threaded solution, fischer offers a particularly safe method for transporting and assembling prefabricated wood components that avoids bending protruding anchor rods. Two components can be easily connected on site thanks to the internally threaded solution. The extensive range of accessories includes DD-E/DD-S centering clips, injection aids, extension hoses, dispensers and much more.

Simple steps

The new solution from fischer can be used for traditional component fasteners using pre-positioned or push-through installation in just a few simple steps. After creating and cleaning the borehole, the mortar is injected without air bubbles from the base of the borehole. When the injection cartridge is issued, the two separately stored resin and curing components are mixed and activated in the static mixer. Then the steel anchor only needs to be inserted by hand with a slight twisting motion until it reaches the base of the borehole. The fischer DD-E centering clip is pre-attached to the end of the anchor rod, while the DD-S centering clip is placed at the setting depth level. The clips are inserted into the drill hole and make it easier to accurately center the anchor rod.

Also in other materials

In addition to high load capacities in timber structures, the FIS EM Plus also enables other versatile joints that provide lasting security. Three European Technical Assessments (ETAs) and ICC approval for the U.S. and Far Eastern countries cover fasteners in concrete and retrofitted reinforcement connections.

The injection mortar is approved for seismic applications in performance categories C1 and C2 (ETA) or categories A to F according to the ICC-ESR. It is also a safe choice for water-filled boreholes and in case of fire (fire resistance class R240). The epoxy resin mortar can be processed at low temperatures down to -5°C. Its ICC approval includes underwater installation. The injection mortar can also be used in diamond-drilled drill holes in concrete without the need for additional roughing or associated procedures and tools. FIS EM Plus is also proven suitable for LP/LPP concrete (general design approval) and coated concrete (general design approval), allowing it to be used for joints in sealing surfaces (according to German water law).
