BAM has started production of its circular wooden Flow homes. At its production facilities in Oudkarspel and Heerhugowaard, BAM Wood Concepts develops and realizes the elements of Flow, BAM's sustainable, industrial, digital and modular housing concept.
There is a large and growing demand for affordable, sustainable, circular and healthy homes, according to BAM. The architecturally flexible housing concept Flow is the builder's answer to this rising demand. With the new housing concept, BAM is transforming residential construction into an efficient, industrial production process.
HSB and CLT
Flow is a combination of timber frame construction (HSB) and solid timber construction (CLT). The facades, (load-bearing) walls, floors and purlin roofs consist of timber frame elements. The structural stair core includes a number of stability walls made of solid wood. Circular biobased materials, such as cellulose for insulation, are used for Flow. For on-site assembly, BAM is using electrical equipment.
Flexibility
All components are prefabricated in the factory, yet Flow has a high degree of flexibility. The parametric model offers great variation in layout possibilities. Facades can be designed with maximum freedom. The design freedom of timber construction also increases the possibilities for urban integration with customization for each lot. By standardizing various modules, affordability remains manageable. With the combination of sustainability, industrialization and digitalization, BAM is implementing its 'Building a sustainable tomorrow' strategy with Flow.
Efficient
The industrial method of production has many advantages, according to BAM. For example, it increases safety and reduces failure costs. Above all, it increases the efficiency of the entire construction process. With this conceptual method, it is possible to build the shell of the house, including facade finishes and modular installation components, in one day on site. The construction time, including finishing, individual options and neighborhood design is thus shortened from an average of twelve to an average of three months.
First Flow homes
The first Flow purchase and rental homes will be built in the coming period in Cruquius, Barendrecht, Terneuzen, Valkenswaard, Doetinchem, Leeuwarden and Veenendaal, among others.
