More and more greenery is appearing in built environments thanks to the construction of green roofs and the installation of green facades in both new construction projects and renovations. Similarly, beautiful green interior walls are appearing in properties. This looks fresh and natural and offers many additional benefits. At the BouwBeurs to be held from February 3 to 7, you can learn all about green roofs, facades and walls.
Green roofs from SemperGreen
Turning gray buildings into green oases is what SemperGreen (09.B075) does, such as with their green roof systems. As a result, even in densely built-up environments, a lot of space can still be transformed into natural greenery. Not only does this look beautiful, a green roof has many benefits. Consider improving air quality, reducing heat loads on buildings and improving local biodiversity. Furthermore, the natural roof captures rainwater, reducing flooding and delaying runoff into the sewer system. Green roofs can be applied to both flat and sloped roofs and to residential, commercial, and other types of properties. This can include an addition, shed, or even a bus shelter.
Green roofs with solar panels
Choosing between a green roof or installing solar panels is not necessary, as both can be perfectly combined. For example, there are double-sided vertical PV panels developed especially for green roofs by the Norwegian company Over Easy Solar with which SemperGreen has an exclusive European cooperation. These are very compact and lightweight solar panels that can be installed on flat roofs without ballast and mechanical fastening. This can be either a new or an existing green roof.
In fact, they are the lightest green solar roof currently available on the market. In addition, these solar panels are ten times faster to install than conventional solar panels. The vertical placement keeps them cleaner longer and ensures that maintenance on the green roof remains simple. By the way, a green roof from SemperGreen can also be perfectly combined with traditional (large) solar panels.
Green roofs by Gerhardt Braun
An outbuilding, canopy, awning, or box can also very well be provided with a green roof. Gerhardt Braun (09.A039) supplies prefabricated vegetation mats that can quickly arrange this. Not only does this look very nice, especially from a somewhat higher vantage point such as a higher floor, it obviously also offers the many benefits we know about a green roof. In addition to being an attractive eye-catcher, these are primarily sound attenuation, retaining and draining rainwater at a more leisurely pace, improving air quality, promoting local biodiversity, lowering the ambient temperature and not to mention protecting the underlying roof structure from things like UV radiation and weathering.
Green facades from SemperGreen
In addition to green roofs, you can also turn to SemperGreen for green facades. This green facade system is Cradle to Cradle certified and therefore fits well with circular buildings. Another big advantage of a green facade is that it is a real eye-catcher because of its good visibility, making a living or working environment extra attractive. After all, a green roof can only be seen from something like a higher floor, whereas a green facade can simply be admired from street level and from neighboring properties. A good example is the energy-neutral gymnasium in Utrecht's Terwijde neighborhood. This modern building features both green facades and green roofs and also uses renewable energy sources such as solar panels.
Green interior walls
All that fresh natural greenery certainly doesn't have to be limited to the outdoor space, as interior walls from large to small can also be made a whole lot greener and more natural. As can be clearly seen at Theater aan de Parade in Den Bosch, a building that has been resurrected on top of the historic foundations of the old building. This theater features a botanical foyer with beautiful green interior walls (SemperGreenwall Indoor), this foyer was designed by architectural firm NOAHH. Or what about a so-called LivePanel, Mobilane's low-maintenance wall solution that can be used both for complete wall installations and for smaller, green accents in rooms.
Green facades from Mobilane
MobiPanel is Mobilane's modular green facade system (09.A066). Easy to install and maintain and suitable for both new construction and renovation. It makes facades extra attractive, improves air quality and biodiversity and lowers ambient temperatures. The Roosendaal municipal office (the HUIS van Roosendaal) is an example of a renovation project in which a total of four MobiPanel systems together form a green facade of no less than 300 m². It involves a building from the 1970s that has been partially preserved and made more sustainable via solar panels and heat pumps, among other things. The atrium also features a 50 m² LivePanel wall, a green interior wall that provides pleasant acoustics and air purification.
Another example is a residential complex in Venlo (in the Maaswaard district) that features a 97 m² green facade covered with seven different plant species. Or what about the green facade of a logistics center, again in Venlo. Here, the green facade is no less than 275 meters long and 700 square meters in size and is installed above the loading platforms of the warehouse. Here it is a WallPlanter system with Hedera helix Woerner ivy.
Green roofs from Mobilane
MobiRoof ECO, a green roof system with sedum from Mobilane, also offers the many benefits we have come to expect from green roofs. For example, it makes buildings more aesthetically pleasing, provides better (rain) water management, reduces heat loads and improves the indoor climate, and has a positive effect on biodiversity. In addition, this green roof is lightweight, easy to install and it is suitable for both flat and gently sloping roofs.
