There are a huge number of insulation materials and with the emphasis on sustainability and ever-increasing insulation performance, the Building Fair is an ideal opportunity to discover what is possible today. Insulation films, insulation boards and what about highly insulating glass that also acts as a solar panel.
Insulation for a thatched roof
Insulating a thatched roof can be either within as outside happen. From the inside, this can be done very well with an insulating foil such as SuperFOIL SF19+, SF40, or SF60 (11.E043). This insulation material is well vapor-tight, has a high insulation value and is fully adaptable to the roof construction. This allows an insulation value (Rc) of as much as 6.3 to 8.3. Insulation from the outside as with a screw roof system prevents condensation and extends the life of the thatch. Vapor-tight SuperFOIL insulation foil is applied over the rafters, after which the screw roof or roof boarding is placed.
Vapor-open and vapor-tight insulating film
SF60 SuperFOIL is a multi-layer reflective insulation foil 100mm thick, making it even the thickest multi-foil in Europe. An addition to the Rc can be achieved from 4.29 to 6.59 in both walls and roofs with this vapor-tight insulation film.
SF40BB is a vapor permeable insulation foil that can be used to supplement existing insulation. With nineteen layers of high-quality insulation material, it is also the thickest breathable vapor-open foil currently available. This allows an addition to the Rc of 3.79 to 5.07 in roofs, facades and floors.
Renovate with insulation film
As part of the sustainability of the Royal Theatre in The Hague, SuperFOIL SF19BB insulation foil was applied during the renovation of the roof. This is an ultra-thin insulating foil that achieves a nice energy saving and an Rc value of about 2.5. And that without affecting the authentic character of the building. Something that is much more difficult or perhaps even impossible with traditional insulation methods.
In Vuren, housing corporation Kleurrijk Wonen completed the roofs of eighteen homes in just four weeks. renovated by providing it with improved insulation and new roof tiles. In this project, the vapor-permeable and waterproof SuperFOIL SF40BB used, an insulating material that also serves as an under-roof foil. SuperFOIL SF40BB insulates and protects the roof, delivering an insulation value (Rc) of 3.79 without the need for major modifications to the roof structure. The foils are lightweight and compact, making installation remarkably quick and easy, allowing occupants to remain in their homes and eliminating the need for heavy construction cranes.
Durable PIR insulation boards
Insulating walls, floors and roofs with insulation boards can be done in a sustainable way without having to compromise on things like insulating properties, fire safety and price. Such as with the PIR boards from InSus (09.C080 and 09.G048) that have a high insulation value and dimensional stability. The boards consist of polyisocyanurate (PIR) with recycled raw materials and have a gas-tight multilayer aluminum coating on both sides. A small selection of products: flat roof insulation, floor insulation, slope insulation, cavity insulation (also for timber frame construction) and renovation boards for pitched roofs.
Sustainable insulation solutions
The sustainable polyurethane PIR insulation materials from Recticel (11.B021) are applicable in both new construction and renovation projects. Think of roof insulation, facade insulation and floor insulation. Continuous attention is paid to the further development and improvement of these thermal and thermo-acoustic insulation boards in the areas of energy efficiency, sustainability and maximizing the recyclability of the materials, among others.
Highly insulating single glass
BENG glass MAX 0.40 (08.F032) is toughened insulating glass with an exceptional insulation value of U=0.40 and that with a profile thickness of only 8.3 millimeters, allowing it to fit single-glazed frames with ease. Its expected lifetime is no less than fifty years. This makes it ideal for renovation projects where maximum insulation needs to be achieved without frame replacement and thus without major modifications. This insulating glass is also available in thicknesses of 10.3 and 12.3 millimeters.
BENG Glass Extra Clear is toughened with a thickness of only 8.3 mm, an expected lifetime of fifty years and a very high insulation value of Ug=0.50. It consists of extra clear glass with a very high light transmission value of no less than 83%. Ideal for listed and protected buildings, as once again both the existing frames and the aesthetics of single glass are preserved.
Glass with power output
BENG glass SUN is a completely new product with an insulation value of U=0.50 that generates electricity and thus acts like a solar panel. All this in a glass package with a thickness starting at 14 millimeters. That makes BENGglas SUN both thinner and lighter than regular solar panels. Again with the long service life of at least 50 years and that with no decrease in u-value (0.40) over time. The output is 85 Wp/m2.
Damprem
Pro Clima Intello film (08.D001) is a moisture variable (Hydrosafe) vapor barrier for flexible fibrous insulation materials in mat and sheet form. This foil provides long-term protection thanks to a special membrane that allows natural moisture exchange, promoting a healthy indoor environment. This is because the film becomes more vapor-tight as humidity increases and, on the contrary, more vapor-open in cool and warm conditions. As a result, the foil can be used in both vapor-open and vapor-tight structures and is suitable for roofs (flat roofs, pitched roofs, green roofs), walls, ceilings and floors.
Vapor permeable cavity slabs
The Windstopper Extreme by Swisspearl (11.F046) is a fire-resistant, water-resistant and vapor-open cavity board. Its main difference from the Windstopper Basic is that the Windstopper Extreme can serve as a temporary cladding for up to a year. This allows more time to install the final cladding. In addition, the Extreme variant is suitable for facade claddings with an open facade finish of up to 20% of the surface area. Both variants involve a rigid panel with good sound-insulating properties.
